Jail Site Study Nixes Downtown Locations

(Toledo, OH)   Lucas County Commissioners are using hard data to shoot down suggestions that a new jail should be built in downtown Toledo.

The commissioners unveiled a report Wednesday that shows building at the Civic Center Mall would add up to $25 million in construction costs.

Voters will be asked in November to raise their taxes for a new jail off Detroit Avenue despite neighbors' concerns about traffic and criminals in their backyards. An opposition group met earlier this week to plan their campaign against the new jail in their neighborhood.
