Ohio GOP Waiting On Endorsing Candidate For Governor

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio's top Republicans are holding off on issuing endorsements for statewide offices.

Endorsements for candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, treasurer, auditor and others were supposed to happen by now. But the consolidation of the Mike DeWine and Jon Husted campaigns for governor changed all that. Blaine Kelly is the communications director for the Ohio GOP and points to action taken by his executive committee.

"There was a motion to delay endorsements until after the February filing deadline... to ensure that all Republican candidates file for statewide office can be considered for endorsement by the Committee and that passed unanimously," Kelly said.

The GOP Executive Committee invoked closed door session twice at their meeting Friday across the street from the Statehouse to take up the matter.
