Priority-Based Budget Becomes Hot Topic

(Toledo, OH) There may be a bigger picture than just replacing Toledo’s finance director.

While there’s an interim finance director in place to stem the loss of former Toledo city councilman George Sarantou who resigned last week, the permanent replacement may not come until after the mayor’s race is decided in November.

That may present an opportunity to hire someone familiar with priority-based budgeting, a new way of planning next year’s spending some Toledo city council members are pressuring the mayor to adopt.

There’s a committee of the whole meeting for city council tomorrow, with the topic being priority-based budgeting. A consultant is currently looking at the city’s spending plan from top to bottom and will soon make recommendations.
