Highway Patrol Stepping Up Distracted Driving Enforcement

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Distracted drivers and people texting while driving will be the focus of Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers for the next several days.

The state Highway Patrol is taking part in a six-state enforcement effort to crack down on drivers who are texting while behind the wheel. Lieutenant Robert Sellers says the concentrated enforcement will look toward behavior.

"We're going to pay extra attention to vehicles that are moving out of their lane and then back in, moving over and maybe straddling the line and then coming back, being on the look out for people just blatantly texting and driving," says Lt. Sellers.

The enforcement effort will be happening in all of Ohio and surrounding states. It starts Sunday and runs through next Saturday.
