Toledo Chamber Opposes TARTA Funding Change

(Toledo, OH) At least one business group is already coming out against TARTA's proposed change to a county-wide sales tax.

The Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce is panning the proposed change that would net the bus service 30 million dollars per year, calling it too much too soon. One-third of that money would be returned to member communities for road-related improvements.

Sylvania Township Trustees last night heard from TARTA officials about the transit agency's plan to swap a half-cent sales tax increase for the property tax now paid in TARTA member communities. Township trustees say they need more information before a vote later this month.

Chamber of commerce leaders contend there's an opportunity to only increase the county sales tax by one-tenth of a percent next year. The business advocacy group wants TARTA to wait until then to propose the change.
