Shooting Competition Starts at Camp Perry

(Port Clinton, OH) A high-caliber event starts today at northern Ohio's Camp Perry.

More than 4,500 national and international competitors will converge on Camp Perry over the next five weeks for a series of pistol and rifle exhibitions.

Opening ceremonies for the national matches take place this morning at the Ohio National Guard facility near Port Clinton, featuring a concert by the 122nd Army Band and a "first shot" fired by Ohio's assistant Army adjutant general.

The National Matches moved to Camp Perry 110 years ago, now hosted annually by the civilian marksmanship program. School students and competition event shooters range from beginners to many of the world’s best.
