Lake Erie is Hot Topic This Week

(Cleveland, OH) Will it be scientists or politicians who clean up Lake Erie?

Top members of Governor Kasich's cabinet who make up the Lake Erie Commission are talking over limited state funding and efforts to clean up Lake Erie's western basin today at the Ottawa Wildlife Refuge in Ottawa County. 

Across the North Coast at the same time, University of Toledo researchers are among those from communities along Lake Erie are in Cleveland, pitching ideas to improve water quality. 

The first-ever "Erie Hack" competition lets scientists, college students and entrepreneurs tackle problems with toxic algae, invasive species and pollution. Entries include an app that can help calculate algae levels, using underwater Wi-Fi to determine pollution levels and text messages to report water quality.
