Medical Marijuana Rules Progress in Ohio

(Columbus, OH) Ohio's medical marijuana rules have cleared a final legislative hurdle.

The 24 licensed medical marijuana grow sites in Ohio will be subject to some of the highest fees in the country, according to rules presented to state lawmakers. Those grower rules cover the application and license fees, but are on track to be approved before the May sixth statutory deadline.

The remainder of new rules  for retail dispensaries, product processors and testing labs are still being revised and must be in place by September eighth. There is still some question as to whether someone convicted of a crime can get involved in Ohio's legalized pot for medical purposes business.

The Ohio Department of Commerce plans to start taking applications for medical marijuana cultivators in June.
