FirstEnergy Selling or Closing Power Plants

(Akron, OH) FirstEnergy is planning to either sell or close all of its power plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Financial documents released this week show the company is carrying major debt.

The news comes just a day after Ohio lawmakers said they're considering a bill to give FirstEnergy's nuclear power plants such as Davis Besse in Oak Harbor a financial subsidy because they don't create any pollution.

FirstEnergy's CEO said Wednesday that still wouldn't really change their bottom line. Such a subsidy would cost First Energy customers an estimated five percent increase in their monthly electric bill if approved by the Ohio General Assembly.
