Andersons Closing Retail Locations

MAUMEE, Ohio - The Andersons announced Sunday that it would be closing all of its retail stores, including the locations in Toledo and Maumee.

The company says it is shutting down the retail division and will close its four remaining retail stores. The locations in Toledo, Maumee and two stores in Columbus will shut down in the second quarter of 2017.

“The decision to close The Andersons stores was very difficult for everyone involved,” says CEO Pat Bowe. “Our stores have been such an integral part of the Toledo community for 65 years. This is a tough day for our Company as we have had so many loyal customers during the years and so many employees dedicated to serving them.

“We are a strong company with a solid future in grain merchandising and handling, ethanol production, railcar leasing and repair, and plant nutrient manufacturing and distribution,” continues Bowe. “While the retail stores are a highly visible part of The Andersons in the Toledo area, these other groups are healthy and growing and have enabled the Company to keep our stores open even as retail profits continued to slip. Our long-standing commitment to the Toledo community remains unchanged.”

The closings will eliminate about 650 positions at the Toledo and Maumee stores and 400 positions at the Columbus locations. The store in Maumee was first opened in 1952, moving to its current location in 1972.
