COLUMBUS, Ohio - Heart attack and stroke are a couple of risks tied to using pot for medical and recreational purposes.

The risk factors have been scientifically linked in a new study, linking heart attack and stroke to marijuana use. Previous findings have been linked to lung disease and psychiatric complications. Doctor William Abraham is the head of cardiology at Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center. He says more research is needed.

"The study does raise concerns and it tells us that there is a lot more that we need to know about both the medical and recreational use of marijuana," Dr. Abraham says.

He adds the benefits of using pot-based medications may outweigh the risks, for some patients.
